Diane Sara Bouzgarrou

Born to a Tunisian father and a French mother, Diane Sara Bouzgarrou lives and works in Lille. Whether fiction or documentary, her films emerge where our inner scars begin to crack.

I Remember Nothing, a dizzying dive into a trauma she's amnesiac about, gathers these intimate fragments by weaving them with the eruption of the Tunisian revolution, to reconstruct the memory of that lost moment. The film has been praised at numerous festivals (Cinéma du Réel, Torino Film Festival, Lussas, etc.)

In 2020, The Last Hillbilly, her first feature-length documentary, co-directed with Thomas Jenkoe, premiered at ACID Cannes, marking the start of a major festival success (special mention at IDFA, best documentary at the Torino Film Festival, Grand Prize at the FIFIB, etc.). The film was released in cinemas in France in June 2021.

Diane and Thomas are currently working on their second feature-length documentary together, The City That Swallowed Souls, a project supported by the Villa Albertine, of which they were award recipients in 2023.

Diane Sara Bouzgarrou will create the fiction medium-length film My Heart Beats for No One in 2025, co-produced by Arte. The film receives the Distribution Prize & Champs-Élysées Film Festival prize at the Festival du Cinéma de Brive, where it premieres, and is broadcast on Arte in autumn 2025.
